When it comes to small business owners and entrepreneurs, confidence is very important. I have observed that maintaining and rebuilding confidence has a lot to do with control.
I take my business coaching clients through the following goal-setting exercise:
- Describe a great result for your business.
- List all of the things that need to happen in order for that scenario to come true.
- Remove everything from the list that you do not directly control. Usually this has something to do with the economy or the mindset of their customers.
Once I get them to focus on the things that they can control, their confidence is usually restored.
One other quick thought on confidence: I have noticed that when I help my clients focus their attention on capturing opportunities, overcoming obstacles while playing to their strengths, their confidence level usually rises.
See if either of these techniques work for you.
